Our Teaching and Learning Philosophy
We aim to provide opportunities for students to use their own natural curiosities to explore, create, investigate, discover, and inquire about the world around them.
As educators, we intend to foster a growth mindset and nurture self esteem and emotional intelligence in our students by establishing a mindful "community" of learners who take care of one another and their learning environment.
Our goal is to provide rich, open-ended materials and intentional, playful provocations that support curriculum expectations and inspire children to ask questions, share ideas, interact with peers, and engage in their own learning experiences.
We use Emergent Curriculum and a Reggio Emilia approach to create a learning environment where students can develop through meaningful and engaging playful explorations.
Through this playful inquiry process, students co-construct learning opportunities based on their own interests, needs, and abilities.
Our aim as Play-Based Educators is to join in the children's play rather than directing it. We watch and listen to children's play to challenge and extend student learning and determine areas of need.
We try our best to make the children's thinking and learning visible through anecdotal observations, photos, videos, and conversations that can be explored on our classroom documentation panel or in our 'This Week at School' Blog, and 'Forest Adventures' sections of this website.
We value the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive benefits that nature and the outdoors provide early learners which is why we provide opportunities for the children to immerse in open-ended, child-led, outdoor exploration and nature play every day.
