The students enjoyed lots of Easter math, literacy, and arts activities in KB this week.
We explored many strands of math with Easter materials. The children sorted and graphed eggs; made patterns with eggs, chicks, and bunnies; explored probability with eggs, chicks, and baskets; measured and ordered eggs, chicks, and bunnies by size; measure the area and perimeter of eggs; weighed eggs and bunnies; explored capacity with different size eggs; practiced giving and following directions while searching for hidden eggs in the classroom; matched eggs and chicks according to 10-frames, tallies, and numerals; matched tops and bottoms of eggs by 10-frames and dots; and practiced counting on by rolling dice, adding seeds, and matching the tallies on the egg to the number in the egg carton.
We read about Easter and watched two different stories about Easter on Bookflix to compare fiction and non-fiction. The students made words by matching beginning letters on the tops of eggs to the word family on the bottom. They also: matched rhyming words; sorted Easter symbols by syllables; put an object inside an egg to match the beginning and/or ending sound on the outside;, built 3-letter CVC words using egg puzzle pieces; made Easter mini booklets; wrote Easter lists; labels Easter paintings; and retold stories read using picture clues and props.
We also hung eggs on our Easter Tree and made salt dough Easter Egg ornaments as a gift for parents (shhh!).
Outside, we followed scavenger hunt clues left by Bunny Hewitt to search for Easter symbols hidden in the forest and on the last day before the holiday, we went on an Easter egg hunt where all the students found a special treat to enjoy!
As always, it was a busy and fun-filled, action packed week of creating, exploring, and learning!
